What happens if you do not get cavities filled?
What happens if you do not get cavities filled?
Tooth decay or cavities are a sign that bacteria have already attacked your teeth and enamel has started breaking down. If you get a filling done from your dentist at an early stage, you can prevent the decay from reaching your dental pulp. The pulp is the innermost layer of the tooth which contains nerves and blood vessels. If decay reaches the pulp a filling cannot be done and you might need a root canal treatment. Dentists will decide whether a root canal treatment is needed after examining your teeth based on your symptoms and after taking radiographs of the decayed teeth to determine the extent of the decay. If left without treatment cavities can continue growing larger and even lead to an abscess (pockets of pus caused by bacterial infection). Hence visit your dentist regularly and get fillings done at the earliest.
