Ramsay hunt syndrome

 

Recently well-known celebrity JUSTIN BIEBER developed this condition called “JAMES RAMSAY HUNT SYNDROME”.

It is a rare neurological condition caused by varicella zoster virus; the same virus can cause chicken pox.

After initial exposure to chicken pox, this virus can remain dormant in the cranial nerve and reactivated later

It’s a special form of zoster infection of the geniculate ganglion, with the involvement of the external ear and oral mucosa.

 

CLINICAL MANIFESTATION

• FACIAL PARALYSIS
• PAIN OF THE EXTERNAL AUDITORY MEATUS AND PINNA OF THE EAR.
• VESICULAR ERUPTIONS OF THE ORAL CAVITY AND OROPHARYNX
• HOARSENESS, TINNITUS, VERTIGO

Recently, Konstantinos et al 2021 revealed that reactivation of varicella zoster virus has been observed after administration of different COVID -19 VACCINES.
